Brian Greene as a child loved math, and he was essentially a prodigy at it. Before he was in kindergarten, he was multiplying 30 digit numbers. He surpassed the high school level math courses in 6th grade. Greene, after high school received his undergraduate at Harvard University in the year 1984. Soon after, Greene received his ph.D in physics at Oxford University. After he completed his schooling, Greene picked up a job at Cornell University becoming a professor in physics and math. As he progressed in his studies, he started writing The Elegant Universe. His goal was simple, Greene wanted everybody to be able to learn about interesting and highly complex theories and phenomenon. To do this, Greene used everyday objects and activities to portray said theories and Phenomenon. Greene also wanted to help expand the science community by co-founding the World Science Fair. With this book, Greene was on the New York best seller's list. Greene has also written other books regarding the universe and time. Some titles include “The Hidden Reality”, or “Icarus at the Edge of Time”. Greene is very well known with his obsession of Einstein and all of his works. He also actively uses the media to inform the general population about these subjects. Stephen Colbert had Greene explain the general theory of relativity and essentially how gravity is affected and can affect certain objects. He was also on the show “The Big Bang Theory” and talked about his book. Personally, I feel like he is a good inspiration for up and coming young scientists who want to pursue this field of science. When one hears Greene talk about his field of science, right off the bat one can tell he truly cares about what he is talking about. His discoveries in theoretical physics have greatly benefited the scientific community. |
